Hermanus whales

The whales are generally here from June to November and some years we have still had whales in January.
They come to calve and mate and generally watch the tourists.
Whale watching cruises leave 3 to 4 times daily from the harbour just down the road (1 km) .
It is unnecessary to go on a boat as the whales come so close to the cliffs to sleep or perform that you feel like you can touch them.
You can lie on your bed, sit on your balcony or stroll on the cliffs in front of the house to watch whales.
It is also possible to fly over them in a small plane to get a totally different perspective.

Hermanus

Hermanus is East of Cape Town about 1,5 hours drive or 1 hour from the International Airport.
We have a shuttle service to and from the airport and several car hire firms in Hermanus.
On the Cliff Guest House is on the seafront about 1 km from the restaurants and village center so it is possible to walk.
The town is built along the coast with a coastal strip left natural, our cliff path nature reserve, and the mountains and hills behind the town forming another natural barrier and these are also protected.
We normally have a Winter rainfall and winds August and September but the weather is no longer predictable and we have had some surprises.
The town is an old fishing village which has since become a holiday mecca for South Africans and Overseas tourists. If you stay 3 nights or longer you will look at property here. We have not had 1 guest who resisted. The longer you stay the more you discover. It has not lost its character and charm.
The town is situated on the coast of Walker Bay and looks across the bay to a fishing town called Gaansbay. The sea infront of Hermanus is a restricted area (no boats at all) when the whales are here.
If you are travelling up from Cape Town to the Garden Route or Knysna then spend at least 1 night here enroute. That way when you return to South Africa you will spend a week here.

On the Cliff Guest House - Accommodation

Our luxury rooms all are sea facing and have beautiful finishes. The ground floor rooms open out onto large private patio's which in turn flow out onto the lawn all facing directly onto the sea.
The rooms are spacious (approx 35 m2) with king size extra length beds, luxury sofa's or armchairs, DSTV , undercarpet heating and beautiful tasteful finishes. The fully ensuite bathrooms are an extra 10 m2 and complement the rooms. The patio is an extra 10 m2 giving you a total of 55 m2 private space. Nothing is cramped and the reception, lounges etc all give you a feeling of openess.
Our decor gives you an immediate feel of calm in a controlled environment and is ideal for relaxing and unwinding.
How often can you have a massage in the privacy of your bedroom watching the whales at the same time and knowing that life is good.
Even the dining room has stunning sea views and guests jumping up for better views of the whales, dolphins, seals, comorants diving into the sea, and just the sea itself.
